Event Description: Green Venture is currently hosting a Katimavik volunteer. Katimavik is looking for families who are willing to host Katimavik volunteers aged 17 to 21 from across Canada between Octobre 29 and November 7. Here is your chance to get to know a young person who is presently volunteering in your community while introducing them to your way of living! As part of the Katimavik program, participants stay with a host family of the region in order to better understand their reality and culture. For some participants, this is also an excellent opportunity to benefit from a full-fledged linguistic immersion. This precious experience will be filled with discoveries for both your family and the participant(s). Each host family will receive a subsistence allowance for the host period. Katimavik is in Hamilton The Katimavik group arrived in Hamilton on September 8 and will live in the community for the next three months, before heading to Quesnel, British Columbia to continue their six-month program. The group is comprised of 6 women and 5 men who are living in a house rented by Katimavik and are supervised by a project leader who lives with them. These young participants are working five days a week at local non-profit organizations. The 35th Annual Dundas Cactus Festival takes place Aug 20-22. King Street is blocked off from York Road to Market Street, and there is a parade on Thursday evening, Aug 19, at 7:00 pm. Following that from Friday to Sunday there are live musicians, buskers, arts & crafts, games, vendors on the street, and information booths like Green Venture's. Event Description: Join Green Venture at Grimsby's "Living Green" festival During the day, there will be musical entertainment on the stage along the north side of the park, near the entrance. We are also thrilled to welcome War of 1812 Bicentennial era re-enactors and soldiers, who will occupy booths in the park, and a short canon demonstration by the soldiers. We are also delighted to be joined by several of our Grimsby Market vendors, who will be be an example of Green local dining. We also will greatly enjoy the works of our talented Grimsby Pumphouse artists at our artists' alley near the entrance. Directions to the Park: From either east or west, on the QEW, take the Christie Street exit, and drive two blocks south to Elm Street.
